About the LibreKAT Foundation
The LibreKAT Foundation is committed to a safer digital society. The foundation focuses on open, controllable and verifiable information security. We do this through knowledge sharing, community building and supporting open source solutions within cybersecurity.
Our objective includes:
- Stimulating the development and use of open source software and hardware for secure digital infrastructures.
- Promoting transparency and reproducibility in security processes.
- Organizing and supporting research, training and activities on digital resilience.
- Connecting citizens, companies, government and social organizations to increase collective digital resilience.
Establishment
The LibreKAT Foundation was founded on October 23, 2025 by notarial deed in Leeuwarden. The foundation has its statutory seat in the municipality of Noordwijk.
Management
At the time of its establishment, the board was established as follows:
- Chairman — Brenno de Winter
- Secretary — Jan Klopper
- Treasurer — Astrid Oosenbrug
Directors do not receive any remuneration for their work, but they do receive reimbursement for costs incurred.
Our activities
The LibreKAT Foundation contributes to digital resilience by, among other things:
- Support of open source projects
- Security research and audits
- Workshops, presentations and publications
- Open and auditable tooling for information security
Our core values
We have identified the following core values for the LibreKAT foundation:
