That is odd, because a presentation is not really about boxes, lines and colours. It is about a story, information, knowledge you want to share and data that must be correct.

OciDeck was built from that idea.

Content first

OciDeck is a presentation tool, but it does not work like conventional presentation software. In OciDeck, content comes first. You do not build loose shapes on a canvas. You choose the type of slide you need: a title, a list, a table, an image, a chart, source code, a timeline, a question, a video or a dashboard. Then you add the content. OciDeck presents it consistently.

That makes the work calmer. There is less moving and tweaking, so you can focus on what you want to say.

The choice of Marp Markdown is important. Because a presentation remains plain text, OciDeck can offer things that are difficult or fragile in a traditional package: reviewable changes, reusable data, exports from one source and technical slides with code, diagrams and formulas without screenshots or manual conversion to images.

Data as a basis

Conventional presentation software mainly stores formatting. Where is the text box? What size is it? What colour is the border? The content is hidden somewhere inside that structure.

OciDeck turns that around. The content is the basis. A table is really a table. A chart comes from data. A timeline comes from events. A code slide contains real source code. A question slide contains a real question with answers.

That matters because content must be verifiable. You want to see what is there. You want to update a presentation without everything falling apart. You want to reuse information. And you do not want your story to depend on manually moving objects.

OciDeck helps with this by saving presentations as Marp Markdown. That is plain text. Readable. Open. Easy to save, compare and share.

Freedom and sovereignty

An important idea behind OciDeck is digital sovereignty.

Your presentation should be yours. It should not be locked into one program, depend on one supplier or remain usable only as long as one package is available.

That is why OciDeck uses Marp. Marp is an open way to create presentations with Markdown. If you create a presentation in OciDeck, you are not tied to OciDeck. You can also open or process the presentation with other Marp tools. The content remains accessible.

OciDeck itself is open source under the EUPL license. That fits the goal: transparent, controllable and adaptable. You do not have to blindly rely on a closed system. You can see how it works. You can use it, study it, share it and improve it.

This makes OciDeck useful for people and organisations that want to keep control of their own information.

That control also applies to sharing. OciDeck therefore has privacy features that help prevent sensitive data from ending up unnoticed in presentations, exports or speaker notes.

What can OciDeck do that would otherwise be difficult?

OciDeck is not only another way to store slides. It also provides options that conventional presentation software usually does not offer.

• OciWacht searches locally for potentially sensitive data and lets you choose per slide whether to accept, mark or omit it from presentation and export.
• Interactive charts stay connected to data, so you do not have to rely on flat screenshots during analysis, explanation or export.
• Checklists can also be completed while presenting. This is useful for training, workshops, checks and security reports in which progress is part of the story.
• With sharing at the right level you can set the intended audience for each presentation and slide. OciDeck can use TLP classification, but its main value is that it makes safe display and export choices visible.
• Export can be blocked if a presentation does not comply with rules, for example due to missing classification or a presentation that is too sensitive for the chosen purpose.
• The quality of slides is checked: text density, contrast, missing media and clarity of charts are made visible.
• Quiz questions, live editable tables, multi-slide video, speaker notes and separate participant notes fit into the workflow.
• For technical presentations, OciDeck supports source code, Markdown, charts, Mermaid diagrams, LaTeX and offline HTML export.
