We are proud to announce release 1.21 of OpenKAT. This version marks a special moment: it is the first release after the transition from OpenKAT to the LibreKAT Foundation. Release 1.21 is all about stability, continuity and future-proofing. In this version, the underlying software components have been updated to the most recent stable versions. In addition, work has been done on a new technical basis that structurally supports further development. This has created a solid foundation for the sustainable development of OpenKAT within the new governance structure.

A lot of energy has gone into carefully organizing this transition behind the scenes. Consider setting up clear development structures, quality assurance, version management and documentation. This release is therefore not only a technical update, but also an organizational milestone.

We are adding a new security measure. Until now, a vulnerability (CVE) was looked up on the internet. Someone could deduce from this what vulnerability is at play somewhere. Of course, an OpenKAT installation that retrieves information is not automatically the vulnerable network itself. Still, we like to be on the safe side. By integrating the list directly into the installation, you prevent the unintentional leakage of vulnerabilities. Of course, new CVEs are included in this list by automated bulk retrieval.

Looking ahead with this solid foundation, release 1.21 will soon follow: a performance release that focuses on significant improvements in speed and scalability. We are thus taking the next step in further professionalizing OpenKAT as a robust and future-proof platform.

There is a strong foundation under the LibreKAT Foundation to give OpenKAT a real future.

This release is called Lapjeskat and not named after a specific cat to symbolize the various updates.
